Bachgraben Garden Pool

The Bachgraben garden pool was built in 1962 according to plans by Otto and Walter Senn. The concrete buildings distributed over the entire bathing complex are exemplary of post-war modernism and are listed in Basel City’s protected buildings’ inventory. The building had only been partially repaired since its construction and was in need of a complete renovation.
The staff areas were unable to meet current usage requirements and the restaurant had not been in operation since 2011 due to various defects. The brief was to integrate different uses: a self-service restaurant and operating rooms for the pool staff. The restaurant building was refurbished in a considerate and preserving manner, prioritising the protected existing building.
