Kunstmuseum Basel

With the opening of the extension to the Kunstmuseum in April 2016, another venue was added to Basel’s cultural wealth. The new building designed by the Basel-based architects Emanuel Christ and Christoph Gantenbein provides additional space for the exhibition of collections and special exhibitions. Renovation work was also carried out in the main building and the Kunstmuseum was closed for 13 months. Visually the extension makes clear references to the main building. An underground passageway links the two buildings together.
